WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
When someone is struggling with his or her game,
it can be somewhat comical to hear them wonder aloud, “What
am I doing wrong?” This question implies that the golfer was
playing a perfect game at some time in the past and it has just
now fallen apart. Well, the chances are that this player has never
developed the basics in their game and will always be vulnerable
to bad play unless they take control of the “technique”
aspect of the game. He or she must realize that a good game is built
over a period of time using a solid and proven approach.
Ben Hogan said it best in his classic book “Five
Lessons – The Modern Fundamentals of Golf”. I quote:
“Don’t simply tell a player what he is doing wrong —
that’s not much help. You must explain to him what he ought
to be doing, why it is correct, and the result it produces —
then work like blazes to get it across so that he really understands
what you are talking about.”
