DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE GROUND
Building your game around divot taking is essential.
If you are afraid to take divots you won’t reach your goal
of playing good, consistent golf. I like to call it the ‘precious
turf’ because where I live (in the great white north) finding
places to practice on grass is difficult. Mats are the norm at practice
facilities here in Canada, and if it’s the same where you
live, you must find the precious turf somewhere else.
For most golfers just going to an open field and
taking divots for an hour would be a tremendous help (you don’t
even have to hit balls). Losing the fear of the turf is critical
to learning how to strike the ball properly. You have to practice
digging with the club as you swing; it won’t develop naturally.
Then the difficult part will be WHERE the divot is located. This
topic is discussed in detail in Chapter two of my book.
