SHAPE THE BALL FOR TOTAL CONTROL

When dealing with the direction and flight of a golf ball there are basically two schools of thought; “Develop a swing that focuses on hitting the ball straight” or “ Develop a swing that can shape the ball in either direction” Which one is best? I will always advocate shaping the ball, even with a fairly new golfer. This is because the ‘straight’ school is the real reason why over 90% of all golfers slice the ball. If every golfer would simply promote (from day one) ‘drawing’ and ‘hooking’ the ball, then nobody would have a chronic slice. They might develop a problem hook, but from a teacher’s perspective this is a blessing in disguise.

It is much easier to cure a hook than a slice. Shaping the ball both ways (intentionally) is the long-term goal and, is a major foundation in my book Smash & Carve Golf. I also use this foundation regularly when giving personal lessons.
