GOLF EQUIPMENT AND HOW IT AFFECTS YOUR GAME
I understand that power and getting off the tee
well are rewarding and exciting parts of the game. But one must
never lose sight of the main goal of playing golf – and that
is TO SCORE! We’ve all heard golf’s tried and true axioms:
“Drive for show and putt for dough.” “It’s
not how far, it’s how many.” “It’s not the
drive, it’s how you arrive.” They tell the whole story
and if fully appreciated would have every golfer with a handicap
over ten teeing off with their three wood and carrying a five, seven
and maybe even a nine wood. Their only irons would then be five
iron through lob wedge. Unless you are a single digit handicap,
the flat-faced clubs should be eliminated from your bag.
This will help you realize the all-important de-lofting
process – something that is vital to long-term game improvement.
This topic is covered in Chapter 2 of my book Smash and Carve Golf.
If a player insists on practicing and playing with clubs that are
too flat faced for his or her skill level, then bad play and more
importantly, bad habits, will continue for as long as they play
those clubs.
